Homework: Please have your child read at home a minimum of 20 minutes per day.

**Failure to turn in reading logs will be reflected in your child’s Report Card.

A new reading log will go home each Monday with the expectation that it will be returned the following Monday and signed by the parent. We will use this log to record our Books and Beyond minutes.

Their will be no homework packets this year. Please read the following letter.

Dear Families,

We hope you had a wonderful and joyful summer with your children! All of us have been very busy taking classes, working on National Board Certification, attending conferences, and/or participating in book studies. Although we’ve been away from the classroom, we certainly have not taken a break from learning! We are very excited to begin the school year and share our new learning with colleagues, students, and families.
As professionals dedicated and committed to your children’s academic success, we continually stay current on best practice and educational research. To better meet the needs of our students, and their families, we make changes as needed based on solid research. With that said, we are changing our homework procedures for K-2 students.
Research shows homework packets do not benefit academic success for primary students; therefore, we will no longer be assigning homework (except reading minutes).
Reading with your child at home is also a lifeline to their learning. Because it’s so important, we will continue requiring students to turn in weekly reading logs. Failure to turn these in will be reflected in your child’s Progress Report.
In addition to the research behind our decision, we are eager to give you more family time with your children without the “battles” of completing homework. Many of you have told us this has been stressful for you. We hope you enjoy your evenings and weekends together doing other activities!
Please feel free to contact any of us if you have any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to a great school year!
