By the end of April your child should be able to meet the following expectations.

In reading...
*I can read for 20 minutes independently.
*I can read words with blends, digraphs, and vowel combinations.
*I can use pictures to help me read unknown words.
*I can get my mouth ready to help me read unknown words.
*I can find sound chunks to help me read unknown words.
*I can make predictions about a story.
*I can make text-to-self connections and text-to-text connections.
*I can retell the story after I'm done reading.
*I can visualize the story in my mind.
*I can determine importance- key words and ideas, main character and major  events.

In math...   
*I can extend a pattern.
*I can create my own pattern.
*I can tell you what will be in the 8th, 10th, 12th, etc. spot of the pattern.
*I can identify the unit of a pattern.

In writing...
*I can write about a small moment from my life. (Ideas)
*I can write a small moment with beginning, middle, and end. (Organization)
*I can write sentences with capitals at the beginning, punctuation at the end, and spaces inbetween words. (Conventions)
*I can stretch out the word I am spelling and write down all of the sounds I hear. (Conventions)
*I can revise my story by adding details or taking out unimportant information.
*I can use descriptive words in my writing. (Word Choice)


In science...
*I can tell the parts of a plant.
*I can describe role of each part of a plant.
