POEMS / QUOTES / THOUGHTS

I hear, and I forget
I see, and I remember,
I do, and I understand.

O.K. - is actually asking a question
Don't - too much to process, ask do
Should - causes guilt, say I want
Absolutes - don't say never, always, everybody,...
instead say rarely, often, some, usually, most,...

Childhood should be a journey...
not a race.

What children take home in their heads and hearts
is more important than what they take home in their hands.

You might have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world,
But if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.
Babe Ruth

CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with fear, he learns to be apprehensive.
If a child lives with pity, he learns to feel sorry for himself.
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy.
If a child lives with jealousy, he learns what envy is.
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to  be confident.
If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with praise, he learns to be appreciative.
If a child lives with acceptance, he learns to love.
If a child lives with recognition, he learns that it is good to have a goal.
If a child lives with sharing, he learns about generosity.
If a child lives with honesty and fairness, he learns what truth and justice are.
If a child lives with security, he learns to have a faith in himself and in those about him.
If a child lives with friendliness, he learns that the world is a nice place in which to live.
If a child lives with serenity, your child will live with peace of mind.
What is your child living with?
Dorothy Law Nolte

I SEE CHILDREN AS KITES
You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground.
You run until you're both breathless...they crash...they hit the rooftop.
You patch and comfort, adjust and teach.
You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that they can fly.
FINALLY they are airborne, they need more string, and you keep letting it out.
But with each twist of the ball of twine there is a sadness that goes with the joy.
The kite becomes more distant, and you know it won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together as it is meant to soar, FREE AND ALONE.
Only then do you know that you did your job well.

By Erma Bomback

We all have gears we never use."  Charles Schultz

If you miss, you land among the stars."  Les Brown

"Always laugh when you can.
It is cheap medicine."  Lord Byron

"Things do not happen.
They are made to happen."  John F. Kennedy

don't say it."  Earl Wilson

THE SIMPLE TRUTHS OF CHILDHOOD
Playtime is an important part of each day.
People make the best pillows.
"Maybe" doesn't always mean "no".
Accidents happen, It's OK if you spill something.
No pointing.
Mind your manners.
Kissing a boo boo makes the pain go away.
Dreams can come true.
Don't scream. It hurts people's ears.
Happiness can be painted in any color.
A nap will make you feel better.
One should attend tea parties regularly.
Friends are important-even the invisible ones.
No on should feel left out.
Don't cut in front of someone. Wait your turn.
Every drawing is a masterpiece.
Never go to bed mad.
Sandwiches with the crust cut off is proof that you are loved.
By Alix Strauss, Family Circle

Walk a little slower,
Said a child so small.
I am following in your footsteps
And I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast.
Sometimes they're hard to see.
So walk a little slower,
You are leading me.

Someday when I'm all grown up
You're what I want to be.
Then I will have a little child
Who will want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true.
So, walk a little slower,
I must follow you.

ON YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS

"Whatever you wish,
Whatever you dream,
Whatever you hope to achieve...
Whatever you try for,
Whatever you plan...
It's yours if you only believe."
(You've shown
that through talent
and hard work
dreams really can come true
Congratulations!)

There can be hope only for a society which acts as one big family,
and not as many separte ones.
Anwar Al-Sadat

Even if you're on the right track,
you'll get run over if you just sit there.
Will Rogers

What really matters is what you do with what you have.
Shirley Lord

You don't have to be afraid of change.
You don't have to worry about what's been taken away.
Just look to see what's been added.
Jackie Greer

If you always do what you've always done,
you'll always get what you've always got.

When you're through learning,
you're through.
