I have
to admit that I am a dyed-in-the-wool barbershopper! I have been
singing with Sweet Adeline choruses for 30 years. I have learned so
much about vocal production and showmanship from this wonderful
organization. My students have benefitted from what I have learned
from international-level coaches! This spring we won first place
small chorus and second place overall. The picture on this page is
our chorus on the Show of Champions in Spokane, where I had a solo
on "Goin' Out Of My Head" - it was in front of the entire Region 13
members (Washingtion, Alaska, and part of Idaho).
I love
animals, esp. cats, dogs, and horses. My new Australian shepherd,
Dee, is keeping me busy learning a new skill: dog agility training.
I am learning to move at a run on the course at our training
sessions. We have our Novice Agility and Open Agility
titles and we are going on to Excellent A. We have our
Novice Jumpers title and are working on our Open Agility
title. As one dog owner said, "Agility is a humbling
experience!"
I have
been teaching music since 1969, starting in Auburn for 4 years,
then coming to Sumner in 1975. I have been at McAlder since 1976. I
had the joy of teaching my oldest son here at McAlder, and now four
of my six grandchildren (Eric's children) are coming. Two
have gone on to Middle School at SMS. A new chapter is now
beginning at DEE.
Educationally,
I graduated from Linfield College with a BA in 1969. I have a
Master of Music degree from the University of Puget Sound. I hold
Level Three Orff Certification.
