About Me:

This is my thirteenth year teaching English at Sumner High School.  During this time, I have taught Sophomore English, Honors Sophomore English, Senior English, Poetry, Advanced Placement Language, International Baccalaureate Junior English, Senior College English, and International Baccalaureate SL Senior English.

Before teaching at SHS, I taught in Wisconsin, where I was raised and went to college as an undergraduate.
I earned my undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Secondary English Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  After moving to the great Northwest, I earned my Professional Certificate in Teaching from Pacific Lutheran University and then my Masters Degree in Multicultural Education f
rom the University of Washington-Tacoma. This year I am back in school, taking classes at Seattle Pacific University.

When I am not teaching or going to school, I enjoy time with my family and time by myself.
With my family, I love to travel, especially during our summer roadtrips to fourteen or more states.  Our favorite spots include Sedona, Arizona; Yosemite in California; Moab, Utah; rafting in Colorado; and, of course, our week in northern Minnesota.  We also enjoy camping in our beautiful new home-state of Washington.  Of all the states to which we travel, there are none like Washington!

When I am by myself, I enjoy running (I finished my first marathon in May of 2009:) and I absolutely love to read.  Contrary to what many students assume, I don't love to read because I am an English teacher--I am an English teacher because I love to read.  I also whole-heartedly embrace education.  I believe that a day without learning is a day not fully lived.

Okay, enough about me . . .

(Guess which one I am . . . hint . . . I'm not tall:)
